remember

father's day was interesting in how it fell on a day in which I remember my mother each year, the day-to this day-that she passed on. my sis and father kept it in a happier mood this year in going out for a good late lunch (late because I didn't follow my sis's directions to the place and ended up on the correct street but in the wrong city). nice Mediterranean place called Rosine's in Corona that had a Turkish slant to it. wonderful mezzeh plate, and a great halibut kabob. mom would have wanted us to enjoy the day we remember her. how we remember how she loved to eat, even much more than she liked to cook. I remember her beautiful humor, telling us how tofu was made from the bones of the ground children with a completely straight face (this when we were very young), among other things.

boy, I just wonder what she would say if she was still around, about how Shan, my sis, and I have turned out, and what we are doing with our lives.

I miss her deeply, and know that she lives on within my sis and I. may we honor and cherish her memory as we go on through life.
