OK, Mike did it, and he got me thinking to do it too. So I bring to you my 25 Most Influential & Favorite Songs.
#1 Blink 182-Aliens Exist-song that taught me that if a song isnt on the radio, it can still be really good.
#2 Dropkick Murphys-The Spicy McHaggis Jig-the murphys were the first band that wasnt on the radio that i took the time to listen to, with the Jig being my first song.
#3 Taking Back Sunday-Timberwolves At New Jersey-I'd like to thank EJ Marotta for introducing me to TBS, and the world of music it existed in. Also, thanks to Adam Lazarra, who showed a true performence at Warped Tour '03 to this song. Swingin' never looked so good.
#4 Thursday-For The Workforce, Drowning-This really started my love for a guy screaming lyrics to a song.
#5 Folly-Please Don't Shoot The Piano Player, He's Doing The Best He Can-The song that got me hooked to songs where I cannot understand the lyrics the first few times, aka hardcore.
#6 Glassjaw-Tip Your Bartender-Daryl sings it. 'Nuff said.
#7 Head Automatica-Please Please Please(Young Hollywood)-Gave me one last reason to dance.
#8 Less Than Jake-All My Best Freinds Are Metalheads-I still play my trumpet thanks to ska.
#9 Every Time I Die-Off Broadway-The coolest blend of hardcore guitars and unreal lyrics make this the coolest hardcore song ive heard.
#10 The Who-Pinball Wizard-When I was 3, my parents took me to see Tommy on broadway. The part in the beginning where the father dies traumatized me forever, but i became addicted to pinball wizard, which leads me to loving the Who, which leads me to #11.
#11 The Who-Baba O'Reily(Teenage Wasteland)-This is by far the greatest of songs, lyrically. Especailly with its intro, if you understand what its all about. So much emotion in that song.
#12 Queen-Bicycle Races-The coolest two guitar solo ive ever heard(yes, i said two guitar solo.)
#13 Queen-Bohemian Rhapsody-bless the operaette.
#14 Green Day-Longview-Mike Dirnt is awesome, thats all there is to it.
#15 Green Day-Jesus of Suburbia-bless the return of the operaette.
#16 The Ramones-Blitzkreig Bop-Thank you for giving the world a reason to be angry and hurt others.
#17 My Chemical Romance-You Know What They Do With Guys Like Us In Prison-They're catchy, and they're hardcore-ish at the same time. That makes for a good band.
#18 Led Zepplin-The Immigrant Song-one of the best melodies ive ever heard.
#19 New Found Glory-Dressed To Kill-No one can have shit on NFG, they are a band just like anyone on this list, but theyre in the current mainstream, and are making more money. i find no problem with that.
#20 Nirvana-Smells Like Teen Spirit-I need to tip my hat to them for inspiring a nation to embrace grunge and get dirty. Another band that my life would be incomplete without.
#21 UnderOath-I Got Ten Friends And A Crowbar That Says You Ain't Gonna Do Jack-a favorite of mine, because UnderOath is amazing, and this is the longest song title i know to date, which makes it even cooler.
#22 The Bled-Hotel Coral Essex-These guys deserve credit for putting on an amazing show at Warped '04, one that really stands out in my mind.
#23 Story Of The Year-In The Shadows-Got me into the whole hardcore/scream vocals thing before i really got into it. Also, spin kicks with a guitar are cool.
#24 All Rights Reserved-Fun Days(In Eighth Grade)-The Marlboro Boys who got me into the habit of going to shows.
#25 Weird Al Yankovic-Pretty Fly For A Rabbi-A genius of our time, he is one of the reasons I am the sarcastic, obnoxious, laid-back person I am. I love parody, and I love Weird Al.
Take this list for what its worth. I agree with Mike, its hard to do, i did a lot of random thinking. Although it seems to be in some order, dont take the order to seriously.
Tell me what you think.
