Author's Note: Thymelady wrote an awesome fic titled About to Be Robbed that's An AU take on 1x12. You HAVE to read that one for this one to make any sense. She also kindly (Thanks again!) gave me permission to write a sequel to her fic and this is where my plot bunnies took me. Reviews are welcome, but be gentle, this is my first RH fic attempt.
"Time to play indeed. Time to grow up, more like." With shaking hands, Marian settled herself on the bed facing the door. Back propped against the headboard, lounging at a saucy angle, legs crossed at the ankle. Marian hid nothing yet hoped she maintained some class-she did not like to think of herself as a mere harlot. Her heart was pounding and her thoughts racing as moments slipped by.
The fact Marian was to be married to Sir Guy was the only reason she found this ridiculous plan acceptable. In fact, one of the main benefits-aside from not being killed, of course-was becoming used to the idea of this man's marriage bed. It was just at the last moment Marian remembered it wasn't just Sir Guy she might be facing, and reached for her mask.
With her Nightwatchman's mask in place, Marian tried to school her expression to that of something other than fear. Within a heartbeat, Guy of Gisborne burst through the door, axe in hand. Breathing hard and wild-eyed, Sir Guy stopped short at the impossible vision before him.
A woman! The Nightwatchman was a woman! And she's naked in my bed!
For one moment that stretched into eternity Sir Guy stared into Marian's eyes. Marian didn't think Guy would recognize her, and she was right. Guy had stared into both Marian's eyes and the eyes of the “Nightwatchman” many times and never learned the truth, and since he'd never seen Marian in her unclothed glory he'd still have no way of telling them apart.
Guy devoured her body with his eyes, clearly enraptured. It was surreal for Marian, laying exposed and finding it almost enjoyable. Only when he heard the commotion and clamor making its way up the stairs was he spurred into action.
He turned his back to her abruptly and bellowed through the house. "He's escaped! Search the grounds and form a perimeter. Do not disturb me unless you have him or I'll have you strung up for the Sheriffs' entertainment!" Guy closed the damaged door and took a moment to collect his thoughts, rearranging the fragments to buy time.
Could he really have missed this? Had a woman really bested him so many times? Guy looked over her beautiful body. The woman was not only blushing, but she smelled of roses and lavender. A noblewoman perhaps? What an absurd notion. None of this made any sense.
With muddled thoughts and a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach, Guy turned back to the ruined door that hung in front of his bedchamber.
"Explain yourself, NOW." Guy spoke in hushed tones, the last word spat out from his clenched teeth. His face was red, though if it was embarrassment on her behalf or exertion he did not know. Sir Guy spun again, staring her down.
Marian could feel the heat of his wrath, his confusion that made him more dangerous than anything. She debated for a moment grabbing her clothing to provide her some shelter from his gaze.
Her mind flashed through her options at a lightning pace. She could lie to him, tell Gisborne some absurd story about how she was actually covering for Robin. Robin... Robin would of course be angry with her for this stunt. But then again, Robin was never pleased with her “handling” of Sir Guy.
Making up her mind as quickly as when she'd decided to undress, Marian sat up straight and pulled her feet to her, tucking them under her knees. She felt a fresh blush burning her cheeks below her mask as Sir Guy's eyes dropped to Marian's lower lips.
"Sir Guy." Marian dipped her head in respect, though the gesture seemed silly when one was naked. The heat from his stare had only intensified. Marian began to feel frightened of that heat, began to doubt her decision. She started to cover herself with her hands, but Marian scolded herself for losing her resolve. She placed them palm down on top of her knees instead.
She felt a flush of excitement come into her cheeks. She'd never felt like this before. Not even when she kissed Robin. The way Guy's eyes roamed over her body, growing soft in appreciation-the way the lower hem of his tunic started to twitch and bounce with every shift Marian made-was just intoxicating.
"Sir Guy, I do believe congratulations are in order!" She smiled disarmingly, and then took off her mask. Marian bowed her head, but looked up through her lashes to gauge his reaction. "You've captured the Nightwatchman!" She held her hands out to him and smirked with more confidence than she actually possessed. "Am I under arrest?"
Guy was at a complete loss. His thoughts were racing. How could Marian be the Nightwatchman? Was she capable of the things “he” had done? As Guy looked into her exposed face and heard her voice, he could no longer deny it.
"Marian, unless you've planned to lose your maidenhead this night I suggest you cover yourself." Guy stared, torn between his breeding and desire. How dare she tempt him this way!
Instead of pulling on her disguise again Marian reached for a blanket to wrap herself in, aware of Guy's scrutiny. It made no sense, this concern for her honor. She had been sure that once Guy knew who the Nightwatchman was, Guy would be sure to make her either a ruined woman or a hanged one. “I suppose there's still plenty of time for him to decide to hang me...”
"Guy, I am the Nightwatchman, but I ask for mercy in exchange for honesty. If you've questions, I beg you to ask them. I think my place in Nottingham-as the Nightwatchman, anyhow-has worn out it's usefulness. The truth at last, yes?"
Marian looked at Guy with such earnestness that he was moved. Though he knew that the moment his head cleared of the beauty before him and her words sunk in he was going to be livid. The Nightwatchman. Marian. The SAME PERSON!
I bet she's been helping Hood all along. Slipping him information and thwarting my every move.
Hood. Has he seen Marian like this?
"If you are what you say you are, what reason do I have to keep you from the noose?" It'd finally caught up to his brain. The betrayal. Gisborne stepped forward and leaned down, smelling Marian's sweet skin.
Marian was caught off guard, acutely aware of the fact that she was naked in the bed of her intended after having just attempted to rob him. She knew there was no answer to his question, and lay demurely awaiting Guy's pleasure.
Guy's lusty stare was fixed on her legs and thighs, which were not quite covered by the blanket. She made no move to do so and surprised Guy further when she did not back away from his incoming kiss.
Just a gentle brush of his lips to hers and he was pulling back, taking her mask with him. Now she was truly uncovered. "Did you mean any of it, Marian? The lies you told me about what you felt? Your promise to marry me?" The hopeful look on Guy's face soon turned bitter and angry.
Marian was still blushing, and Guy's closeness was making her warm all over. Her lips still burned from where he had kissed her. Why had Robin's touch never affected her this way?
"Honestly?" Marian sighed. Guy had proven time and again that loyalty and honesty were the way to get the same from him. Lord give me strength. Forgive me Robin.
"I loved Robin of Locksley before he ran off to help King Richard, and I love him still." Guy's face darkened, his jaw tightened.
"I do not want to hear your declarations of love to another Marian, I asked if--"
"Guy! Let me finish, please." She sighed and reached up to touch his cheek, felt how warm his skin is. "I love Robin Hood, but I also feel something for you. You make me feel things that Robin has never elicited from me."
Gisborne's curious expression spurred her on. Marian could feel the honesty in her words as she spoke them, surprising even herself as she spoke truthfully for the first time in a long while.
"Your touch makes my skin burn. Your kisses make me forget myself. I would not be able to marry you if I did not have some feeling for you, Guy." Marian took a deep breath. “And I do, Sir Guy of Gisborne. I do have feelings for you. Strong ones.”
He couldn't believe it. Marian felt for him. Her words sank in and Guy realized that they were still engaged. Head spinning, he bent down and kissed her again, with all the passion he possessed. Marian kissed Guy with equal fervor, putting her hands around his neck and pulling him closer.
Marian was on fire. Her skin felt hot and cold at the same time. Guy's kisses were sending shocks through her. She had never been so naked in the presence of a man before. It thrilled and scared her in equal parts.
Guy lost his footing and ended up on the bed with Marian, sitting next to the only woman he had ever loved. She was beautiful. Chest heaving, cheeks flushed. She had one hand clasping the blanket to her. Guy had to make a decision.
Marian had made hers. She leaned forward again and placed her lips on his. The first kiss she had initiated. They were caught up once more until one single arrow flew in and embedded itself into the woodwork above their heads.
