Dreams are funny things..

A few nights ago I was desperately choosing the right packet of wasabi peas for Silv3rfish which for some reason, was particularly difficult.

Last night on the other hand, there was pre-wedding stress (great.. the wedding is like 1 year and 8 1/2 months away.. plenty of time. I dreamt that we were getting married and for some reason it was a double wedding. My cousin (who got married year before last) was getting married to her husband before us, with all our family and friends there.

Richard and I hurried away to prepare as I realised we hadn't written the vows. Then it dawned on me - we had forgotten to organise a celebrant, as time had gotten away from us.

Now I think this is a real insight into me, and my organisational abilities. Here we are, so far out from our wedding, and on some sub-conscious level I'm already worried that the planning is out of control (see we are only just about to book, like 4 months after we were ready). So obviously, we're running out of time, and won't have vows or a celebrant..

heheh..

I woke up.. and went "wtf??". Plenty of time.. plenty!

The dreams probably happened as we ate spicy food again yesterday (it really does seem to make a big difference with certain herbs) and we discussed weddings last night. My folks had said they were happy to 'put in' towards a wedding, maybe something like a third, which would be fantastic. Mum had said that in order to discuss it I had to present them with a fully outlined budget of what I would be expecting to spend and bring a bottle of wine.

So I spent a long time slaving over budgets that were fully inclusive and reasonable at the same time. Even refusing to invite some of the rellies, we already know and like waaaay too many people which of course costs way too much. I searched the net, looked at everything, and tried to come up with a ball park figure that was somewhat accurate.

Result: Approx $27,800 - including modest reception, necessary wine upgrade, dress, suit, airfares, rings.

The short of it was my parents did their crazy parent thing and totally surprised me by offering a fair more than a third. I had included honeymoon flights and wedding rings in with costs, so I thought the budget was like 6 grand over what it should be.. and so the amount they have offered to pay is probably closer to a half than a third.

My folks can be so funny.. they can be so tight over some things, that just when you think you have them pegged they offer something super generous. Needless to say, we were bowled over and are quite pleased. It also means we can finally put down a deposit and lock in a firm date this month.

Looks like November 2nd 2007, which I think will be awesome for long weekends for future anniversaries (Melbourne Cup weekend).

Now.. really, I can just sit back and not think about the wedding for a while again right? I don't need to put together any more comprehensive budgets..

Now you can just all baulk at how much weddings cost..
