Come to think of it, though, I've never been to a proper beach.

I don't know if, as a friar, this will be an incentive or deterent, but there will be several of us young ladies in swimsuits.

It would be a deterrent for a monk, but certainly not for a friar.

What is a friar, specifically?

[somekindofsin]

Specifically, a friar is a member of a mendicant order who has taken a vow of poverty--that is, a friar can't own anything, technically, and gets by by begging. Traditionally, friars are heavily involved in ministry, but I'm something of an exception.

In short, friars are monks with fewer earthly possessions and fewer rules.
