a hard rain fell and we lost something
intimacy and comfortable silence
newfound shared loneliness
like a fist in the gut but drier
i dont know where my eyes went
i dont know if you have them
a hard rain brings a rot to the field
old roots molded over and deadened
to retill or raze i oughtta ask you
for a time i bent my head low
a bang like a pounding on the roof
like a thunderclap, i counted seconds,
counted days & months & now years
as many bodies as are buried arent
