Once the world ran out of room, people began to build up.  And by up, I mean that in order to make efficient use of space, things were built into the air.  Highways were stacked on top of each other, and a form of magnetism was used to hold up the new buildings and roadways.  People became so obsessed with this new form of construction that they kept stacking and building until they reached the end of the earth's atmosphere.  However, they were too caught up in their building that they didn't realize they could no longer survive in such an environment, and eventually they all died.

I think this is some version of the truth.  Maybe.
