you don't know me.
i don't know you.
but i was looking through journals of people who like +/- and came across yours.
you live in williamsburg.
i live in williamsburg.
but i was just talking about this subject the other day. the whole MTV thing.
and i had to comment.
i'm one of those people. i lose interest in a band when they are over-publicized. i don't think people choose to automatically have a dislike for something they once adored, but when you notice how television persuades artists to change their style in music simply for the fame, you lose a certain level of respect. the kind of respect that is gained for a particular band because of the fact that they can play small shows and get to know their fans on a one-to-one basis, you know?
it bothers me when you see 'those kids' wearing a t-shirt they bought at hot topic because they heard one song on the radio and thought it would be cool to look like everyone else going through the 'glam-rock-emo post-concerted' phased look. but that's just me. maybe i'm selfish.
i just disagreed with your entry. think about it though... good charlotte. i'll admit, they once sounded decent. then BAM! radio/mtv hits, and look where they are now. same with nfg, and other various bands.
kids who have a general like for the underground music scene enjoy small shows in small venues, with cheap ticket prices, and the ability to chat with the bandmates. mtv kills that. and i guess that's why i wanted to comment.
and i guess mtv and the radio are the reason i don't listen to that kind of music so much anymore.
corruption of the finest.
