One Random Act of Kindness

I was walking home from the mall a while ago when I saw an old lady gesturing towards the passing vehicles for a lift. From the looks of it she must be one of those working in the neighborhood construction site. She seemed to be a large woman for her age yet so old and brittle. None of the two wheelers or the four wheelers offered her any lift but help came in the form of a 12-13 year old boy riding his bicycle. I could figure from his fancy bicycle that he must be from a well to do family.

The old lady smiled but refused to accept the lift, I guess she thought of herself as too big for the 12 year old boy. It took some effort from the young gentleman's side to coax her into settling down on the bicycle carrier. She hoisted herself, patted the boy fondly on his back and got herself secure by holding on to bicycle.

The boy staggered initially, and then he found his pace and rhythm and cycled on even more passionately with a smile on his face.

Does it make a difference what fancy cars we drive, what fancy bikes we ride ? Or does it make a difference when we lend a hand to someone taking a tottering step?

Sometimes when I start wondering where compassion and care is vanishing from the society , why have we become so busy in our own lives that we forget to look around , incidents like these give me hope that this world ain't so bad :)

A little love can change it all as Bryan Adams sang once....

kindness, humanity, random act of kindness, young boy, care, old lady, lift, compassion, love
