Try a crochet needle.

That's totally the backup option, but I think it would be easier with an actual buttonhook. Since I'm considering using it for hte purposes for which it was intended (which should shock many, including my father, if he were to read this). Thanks :)

I mention the crochet needle because I couldn't find a button hook for my wedding dress. ;)

aha. you win the bonus prize for figuring out why i need it. (fortunately, it's just for one button, with the bustling. it would be nice to have, but not entirely necessary.) :)
