It kinda came to me the other day in practice, and that is, just what yoga is to me...

Through asana, the physical aspect of yoga, patterns of acceptance are created through practice. We go into class, and some things may not be so good. We may get discouraged and wonder why we aren't able to do this particular thing that worked just fine yesterday. Then, as the class progresses, it may then be discovered that there is something that was previously unattainable that suddenly is completely within our grasp.

It's the perfect metaphor for life. We must always accept the bad and roll with it (by means of surrender, not defeat!); simultaneously, we must seek out the good and celebrate it.

The practice of asana is constantly full of surprises. Through a teacher's description alone, we may be able to find ourselves in postures that we had no idea we could do...just by trying a new way in. It's funny what we can find ourselves doing so long as we're not entirely certain where we're going. How often do we set ourselves up for failure, simply by over-thinking things and psyching ourselves out?

Yes, that is why I love asana.
