I Am Become Mom, The Destroyer of Worlds

I told her it was different. That when you close a book, the words are still on the page. When you turn off the TV, the transmission continues without you. DVDs and video tapes all hold their contents, perfectly preserved, waiting for us to return. But games are different. The game is only complete when I am playing it. Its story and world don't exist unless I'm there to continually press the buttons. If I turned the game off, I wouldn't be letting it rest. I'd be destroying it. It would be like setting fire to a painting, or tossing a book into the sea. It would be a crime.

But she still reached over and unplugged the Nintendo.
