This is my own little kitteh. Some of you have met her:

Her name is Madame Polka Laffoon IV. Or just Polka, or Miss Critter, or Polka-face, or Polka-butt, or a myriad of other names.

I adopted her a few years ago, from a shelter that comes to the Woodinville Petsmart every weekend with cats for adoption. My mom had seen her, and called me to tell me that she had found me a cat, and that I needed to go out and meet her. We went out to see her, and adopted her that same night.

This is Fisher:

She was adopted by sharkcowsheep and her husband in Korea and brought back over with them when they came back home.

Right now, the Seattle Humane Society is overflowing with cats. 239, to be exact, when they have facilities to hold 150. Apparently the number of cat adoptions there and across the country are down, probably due to the poor state of the economy.

So they are waiving the adoption fee for cats over a year old.

For those of you in the area, you should consider looking into this. Adult cats are lovely things -- yes, they are not as cute and fuzzy as wee little kittens, but that's OK. As the owner of two adult cats, I can say that I kinda prefer that. My two kittehs are precious and special, and I wouldn't swap them out for kittens, no matter what.

So for you local folks, consider adopting an adult cat. For those not local, maybe look into the state of shelters in your area, and see how they're doing.
