Riley's mood was bittersweet as he drew in a heavy breath of New York air. It wasn't as clean or fresh as Scotland, but it was on home soil and that was enough for him right now. It had been much harder walking away from Beth and leaving her in Scotland than he had thought, but they both knew they'd made the right decision for now. They'd spent the last few months trying to find something that just wasn't there. Maybe down the track when everything settled and Riley felt more content within himself after all the horrific events of the past year behind him, they might find their way back to each other. For now, they knew they still loved each other but it wasn't a romantic love and he knew they would always stay connected.
Now there was someone else he needed to reconnect with and he knew he wouldn't be able to really start to heal over what happened in Scotland until he at least saw Tab to assure himself life really wasn't as upside down as he felt it was. It was only 8.28am, but he didn't care. She wanted presents and he wanted time to log back onto reality. She was going to have to deal and if she didn't, well, he'd just give her a wedgie. He knocked loudly on the apartment door without any hesitation, tavel bag heavily laden on the floor beside his feet.
