Chez Nouveau Nouveau Nouveau Moi
This is a few months overdue but anywho, welcome to the guided photo tour of chez nouveau moi, my new palace, my new apartment in the sky, my brand-new shrine to all things kitsch...
Background: The apartment, known as a 'flat' in South Africa despite residing on the 4th floor of the building, belongs on Robyn Orlin, the esteemed, world-famous dancer and choreographer aunt of JHD Orlin, esteemed and world-famous entertainment editor. Aunt married out of the faith to a German man and now lives in Berlin with their adopted daughter Ruby Nomalanga Ntombifikile Schmitz Orlin (who will likely grow up to be the most confused black German Jew what ever did live, but that's another tale for another day). Thus the apartment was standing somewhat empty despite being fully-equipped and fully-furnished. After his return from Taiwanarnia to Sefrikka, JHD spent the first few months living with his mom. This arrangement was dropped faster than the rock that killed Piggy in Lord of the Flies for the new one where JHD has an entire massive bachelor pad all to himself. We're told he doesn't mind sharing the place with Hello Kitty and Betty Boop.
Layout: The apartment contains a kitchen, two bathrooms, one large bedroom with double bed for keeping new boyfriend warm in, plus open-plan lounge/study/TV room. Naturally, the place itself is a shrine to kitsch, and "subtly" blends the best of Asian cartoons with Betty Boop, Disney and SpongeBob SquarePants, especially in the bathroom where the walls are covered in the above-mentioned animated characters (plus others) so that - and I quote - "I have something to look at while I'm peeing." TMI!!!
As an aside, the author would like to mention that he has moved home seven times in the last three years. Hence the much nouveau-ness of the this place...
