Minor nitpick: the madness all started at the Songshan (松山) Tobacco Factory, not Zhongshan (中山).

As for the chorus boys in very tight pants, perhaps Mavis was too busy looking at the German soldiers dancing through France to notice the chorus boys in very tight pants.
As for the pictures making you look a tad gay, I think we should, um...er...just chalk that one up to some rather impressive PhotoShopping. Um, yeah...PhotoShop. Yeah. The pics were doctored. Yeah yeah.

Ah... they were probably doing this in the German springtime (which I believe corresponds to winter in Poland and France) - so perhaps that explains it.
