A Thoroughly Taiwanesian Experience

What could be more Taiwanesian than playing the Taiwanese version of mahjong on tiles bought at a Taiwanesian night market with genuine Taiwanesians (plus a few Sefricans thrown in for good measure), while drinking Taiwan Beer and listening to aboriginal Taiwanese music?

The answer of course is Saturday night's games of the Taiwanese version of mahjong on tiles bought at a Taiwanesian night market with genuine Taiwanesians (plus a few Sefricans thrown in for good measure), while drinking Taiwan Beer and listening to aboriginal Taiwanese music.

It's kinda like rummy-slash-kaluki in the sense of 'pick up tile, throw another one out, get rid of all your tiles to win, gloat, bitch about the maid', except that the only Jewish thing about mahjong was me playing it. Still, like tiramisu-flavoured Haagen Dasz, frozen papaya milk, how to say 'I don't understand in Chinese' and the fact that sitting on the number 262 bus from Jhonge to Minsheng Community will not take you past Ximen, even if you sit on it for an hour and 20 mins until the bus driver kicks you off, leaving you stranded in the middle of friggin nowhere (ie Neihu), it's a spiffy new discovery in my life.

And in other news this week:
1) My dvd of The Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy, purchased in Cambodia for a whole $2 (US) snapped in two while I was trying to ejaculate it from the box. That's cheap pirated labour for ya!
2) I outlined an idea for a book I've been wanting to write for some time now. Well, enough of an outline to get started at any rate. Hoorah me!
3) Erin leaves in 4 days. So come Thursday, I have the whole place to myself. It's gonna be a bit lonely here on my own, but I figure I'll cope just fine. I'm a big boy.
