So it's official: We are buying a house! It's on Yale street, which is just the neighborhood I wanted to be in. We're going to be very busy during the next month finishing the repairs to qualify for the First Time Homebuyers loan.
We have to:
--put down flooring in the basement bathroom (I'm going to call the appraiser and ask if peel and stick vinyl tiles will work)
--install a ceiling in the basement bathroom (another DIY project; I got books from the library on putting in a drop ceiling)
--get a bunch of electrical stuff changed, moved, etc.
--tighten some doorknob (seriously!)
--hire someone to move around some insulation in the attic.
The two big projects will have to wait until the weather gets a little better, so we have to put 1.5x the cost in escrow. The roof needs to be replaced (Does your dad still do that, Amy? We're trying to get ahold of him) and we need to repaint the house and garage. We just have to figure out what color to paint it...I'll try to have pictures one of these days.
So it's pretty exciting stuff, but it's going to wipe us out monetarily. It'll take a while to recover, but then we'll have a house. Look for an awesome early May housewarming!
