Summary: These streets are like our homecoming to where our lives began. Where we did rugby, cardboard houses and expired cans of meat. This deck of cards is a box of memories about how much these streets mean to me

Introduction / 1st Draw

"... king of diamonds."
"Fucking shit Bert that's a kicker." Jeph exclaimed, patting his friend lightly on the back in somehow in a display of comfort.
Ryan didn't say anything but pushed the pot towards Mikey, who was still too stunned to move as he stared at the pile of green bills.
He ran his tongue over his chapped lips and tucked the money safely into his front jeans pocket. The game was over, need not say anything, for him at least. This was enough to pay for the rent and bills for awhile, provided he would bring it out little by little to avoid any confrontation from the others.
He turned to leave, slipping on his glasses, but before he could get very far...
"Way, next month, we play at my place." Bert called "I have a friend that would want to try their luck against you." complete with the undertone of a big bet.
The younger didn't say anything and walked out the door. There was such a thing as pushing his luck, but the silent promise of several thousands in a short game was tempting.

Mikey tossed off his shirt for a faded iron maiden shirt and stripped down to his boxers, letting his eyes run over their apartment. How they only had enough cups, plates and utensils for the four of them, a frying pan and a cauldron.
He sighed, how the living room was also their bedroom, their two mattresses on the floor behind the couch, Hell they didn't even have covers, only thin sheets to serve as makeshift blankets.
But everything was clean, Gee would do it in his free time if there wasn't anyone around, even though he didn't say it, he worked hard nonetheless.
He approached the ancient fridge they had, checking the bills for any disconnection notice. The apartment however crappy it may be was still home, his winnings tonight made their contribution for another two months, the water and electric bill, even with a bit left over to save in his bank account.
He debated himself again, he was one hell of a lucky boy when it came to cards, even though he did lose his fair share of money. But his salary is hardly anything in comparison, when he can double, even quadruple it when he gambled every month.
He crawled into bed, settling under the sheet. There were some days he hardly saw his housemates, they worked profusely to make their pitch to make ends meet.
Frank even spent late nights and early mornings at a community college, somehow trying to peice his dream of becoming a lawyer together. Even if he was just taking economics and political science.
He closed his eyes, willing himself to sleep, making a mental note to kiss both his loves before they left for work tomorrow. Gee would be the next one to come home, but he could never stand the broken look of the smudged lipstick and cigarette burns his brother would have to nurse in the bathroom, only wanting to hide them away from the world.
"Someday I'll make it better." he muttered finally before sleep caught him by the throat.

Author's Note: I wasn't pleased with the last chapter, so I decided to link it together since I like this one much better :D I hope you guys are enjoying it as much as I enjoy writing it..
