We've had the sewer flood into our basement, no hot water and now no air-conditioning, but I am a very happy woman.
Last week we had a big rainstorm (5 inches of rain in 90 minutes according to our local paper) and our basement flooded with disgustingness. What did I learn? That I have the most wonderful, capable husband. Sometimes a woman just has to brag. First he removed of all the smelly destroyed cardboard boxes and ruined items -- carrying many, many loads up the stairs and out onto our driveway. The next day he loaded it all into the dumpster all by himself and then cleaned the basement and all the salvageable items with bleach. He just took care of it, didn't complain and even apologized for not being more available to help with our little one, who was crabby.
Then we went away for the weekend and took advantage of grandparent babysitters to have a wonderful date at a fancy restaurant. It was a short reprieve from the house challenges. We had hoped that our water heater would dry out while we were gone and the pilot light would work again when we returned, but no such luck. (BTW when we shopped for new ones and wanted quick installation Sears sucked and Lowe's was good, just in case you wondered.) While we waited for the replacement my sweetheart took cold showers, but he heated up water on the stove and made a warm bath for me and our lovely daughter. He takes very good care of us.
Today we have hot water (yippee!), but now our air-conditioner isn't working -- when it rains it pours, literally and figuratively. My guy is already working on finding someone to fix it. I am lucky to have him and I just felt the need to put that out into the universe tonight.
