Chapter 710:

Tom still didn’t feel well after the time they said he would feel better. If anything, he felt worse. He came down with a fever, which was more alarming to Eddie than Tom. He went from lying on the sofa to lying in his bed feeling feverish, weak, and completely out of it. When Eddie expressed his concerns, Tom insisted he had some kind of cold. When Eddie checked Tom’s incision and saw that it was obviously infected, he rang an ambulance. Before he knew it, he was admitted to the hospital. Eddie went home and got his pyjamas so he didn’t have to wear the gown.

“You’re not crossed with me, are you?” Eddie asked.

Tom shook his head.

“I worry about you, love,” Eddie said.

“You should really stop…It’ll be easier on you when I die if I am already dead to you now,” Tom said.

“Don’t even say that,” Eddie said. “You’re eating again. Your levels are down.”

“Yet I still end up here,” Tom said.

“I hate to say it but…you ended up here because your lack of hygiene,” Eddie said.

Tom squinted his eyes. “Oh, thanks.”

“It’s true! It has nothing to do with your disorder!” Eddie said.

“Arthur didn’t die from the disorder. He died from meningitis,” Tom said. “A side effect of the ridiculous procedures he was put through.”

“This infection is not going to kill you,” Eddie said.

Tom turned away from Eddie.

“We love you, Tom! There is nothing you can say or do to change that,” Eddie said then rubbed his eyes.

“We?” Tom asked, looking back.

“Your friends, family, everyone in the house,” Eddie said. “Do you know why someone always wakes you up when you sleep in?”

“Why?” Tom asked.

“Because every time you sleep in…the first thing we all think in the house is you finally passed…and that scares the hell out of us!” Eddie said. “Because we love you!”

“Excuse me for being such a fucking bother!” Tom said.

“It’s not like that!” Eddie said then sighed. “You’re not listening!”

“Get out of my room,” Tom said.

“What?” Eddie asked.

“Get out!” Tom said.

Eddie didn’t move.

“Get out!” Tom said, raising his voice.

“Fuck! Fine!” Eddie said, standing up and grabbed the bag of Tom’s clothes. “You need to take your bipolar pills because you’re absolutely impossible off them!”

After this statement, Eddie stormed out of the room and out of the hospital. When he was outside, he sat on a nearby bench and started looking through the bag of clothes. He found Tom’s pack of cigarettes and lit one. While he was smoking, Rob and Matilda walked towards him. They were going to the hospital.

“Eddie, you’re smoking again,” Matilda said.

Eddie nodded.

“You go ahead inside, tildy, I’ll see what’s going on,” Rob said.

“Okay,” Matilda said then went inside.

Rob sat down next to Eddie. “What’s going on?”

“Tom kicked me out of his room,” Eddie said.

“Oh, no. Did you two have a fight?” Rob asked.

“Yeah,” Eddie said then took a drag of the cigarette. Rob took it away from him, took a drag, and tossed it in the street.

“It’ll blow over,” Rob said.

Eddie nodded. “So, why are you two here? Tom will be out in a couple of days.”

“Uh, Charles had a heart attack,” Rob said.

“Oh, no!” Eddie said. “Is it serious?”

“They say it was a minor heart attack but he was admitted,” Rob said. “I drove Matilda here since her car is out of commission.”

“Oh, wow…someone should tell Tom,” Eddie said, standing.

Rob and Eddie went back in the hospital and went into Tom’s room. He was watching the small television in his room. Before Tom could object about Eddie’s return, Rob told about Charles.

“Is he okay?” Tom asked, frowning.

“Yeah. He is fine, Tom. He’ll be fine,” Rob said.

“Can I see him?” Tom asked.

“Oh, love…I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Eddie said.

Tom nodded and looked back at the television. Eddie stuck around but Rob went to see Charles after a bit. Eddie and Tom apologized to each other when he left. Their fight was silly. When Tom was eating the dinner the hospital gave him, Matilda came in the room. She hugged Tom then sat down.

“How is dad?” Tom asked.

“He’s well,” Matilda said then took out a Nandos takeaway bag. “Here…you don’t have to eat that rubbish.”

Tom smiled and took the bag from her. “Thanks.”

“No problem. I got it for myself but I’m not hungry,” Matilda said.

“It’s good,” Tom said with his mouth full.

“I can tell,” Matilda said, smiling.

Tom swallowed his food. “Is Mum here?”

“With Dad,” Matilda said.

“The Sturridge women are amazing,” Eddie said, smiling.

“Well, mum isn’t sneaking in food like this to dad,” Matilda said.

“I hope not,” Tom said.

“We’re still amazing none the less,” Matilda said then chuckled.

“See what you did, Eddie?” Tom asked.

“Whoops,” Eddie said.

“You forgot to mention we’re strong too,” Matilda said.

“I can’t deny that,” Tom said.

“Thank you,” Matilda said, smiling.

Two days later Tom was released from the hospital and went to see his father. He looked tired but well. Tom kept visiting his father until he was released. He then saw him at the duplex and ended up staying the night. He went downstairs the next morning and went into the kitchen to get some milk to take his antibiotics.

“Morning, sweetie,” Phoebe said.

“Morning, mum,” Tom said, pouring himself a glass of milk.

“Oh, Tom, don’t take that with milk,” Phoebe said, taking the glass away. “You’re supposed to take it with food.”

“I don’t feel like making anything…” Tom said.

“I’ll make you something,” Phoebe said.

“Can I take my other medication will the milk then?” Tom asked.

“No. get a glass of water,” Phoebe said then took a sip of the milk.

Tom laughed. “Yes, mummy dearest.”

“Oh, Thomas, I am not that bad,” Phoebe said then smiled. “Go upstairs and relax. I’ll bring your food in when it’s ready.”

“Okay,” Tom said.

He poured himself a glass of water and went upstairs. He took his pills and turned on the television. When the food was ready, Phoebe brought it to him. He thanked her and started eating. When he finished, he went downstairs with the dishes.

“Was it good?” Phoebe asked.

“Great,” Tom said.

“Take your pill?” Phoebe asked.

“Yeah,” Tom said, putting the dishes in the sink.

“Good. Are you heading out soon?” Phoebe asked.

“Yeah…I should get back to Eddie and the kids,” Tom said.

Tom left an hour later. In the beginning of May, he packed his bags and made the trip to his Aunts place with his friends and the kids. They got a warm welcome from Kate when they arrived.

“I’m tired,” Thomas whined.

Kate took his hand. “I got a bed with your name on it.”

She walked out of the room and Maisie walked into it.

“Hey,” Maisie said then looked at Willow in Gia’s arms. “She fell asleep?”

“Yes,” Gia said.

“I’ll see her later…” Maisie said then quickly left the room.

Ben looked at Gia.

“I didn’t do anything,” Gia said.

"Maybe you should of offered to let her hold willow," Ben said.

“WOOO! I want to go out and explore,” Rob said loudly to end a possible huge fight. “Who is with me?”

“Me!” Oliver said, raising his hand.

“I’ll go,” Tom said.

“Anyone else?” Rob asked.

“I will come,” Josephine said.

A couple of others said they wanted to go and they all went out for a walk.
