Things Everyone Should Do Today.

i) EPIC.
If you want to know what mithrigil's been working on over the past two and a half months, read it. If you're concerned about the world and humanity's effect on it and what art has to say about that, read it. If you want to see what time changes and doesn't change, read it. If you want to see how Sumeragi Subaru becomes badass incarnate, read it.
This fic uses and reworks characters from X/1999, but places them ten years in the future. You don't need to know the source canon, though a passing familiarity with anime and manga in general helps. Read it. Absorb it. Cackle. Cry. Hell, do both at the same time. Tell Mith how much you love her.

ii) Yuletide! One of the best challenges around, and it generates wonderful fic for fandoms that don't get a lot of it. A lot of my active fandoms qualified this year (Baccano!, P3, DDS, TB...), but I held off on offering for them, actually. I want to stretch my writing muscles a little.
(and by "stretch" I mean that I signed up to write mostly Shakespeare and Gaiman fandoms because I'm in that kind of mood lately.)

iii) VOTE. If you live in the United States, that is. Anyone who's read this journal for any length of time can guess who I voted for -- and who I'd encourage others to vote for, because it's lovely when the government doesn't treat you like a second-class citizen -- but really, just vote. Because this is your chance to effect change, and I think we can all agree that change is needed. Badly.

(Also, my IJ expires soon, and I think I'm going to renew either my IJ or my LJ, but not both. Am conflicted. On one hand, IJ just doesn't have as strong of a community, at least not recently, and not really for most of the fandoms I'm active in right now, Baccano! excepted. I like interacting with people, and it seems like I don't do that as often on IJ anymore, both with giving and receiving comments. I mean, I'm at least partially culpable in all this. On the other hand, I don't know how I feel about giving LJ money, because a lot of their recentish policies frustrate me. On the other other hand, I want more icon slots. On the other other other hand, I get 100 of them on IJ. On the other other other other hand, IJ's administration is, well, shoddy, and I know that the unexpected site growth's partially to blame for that, but still.

...so it's probably going to be LJ after all. I love my corporate overlords?)
