...it's been ages since I've posted!

I've been sucked into tumblr lately, because it's a lot lower-commitment fannishly (and I'm not terribly fannishly engaged with anything right now) and because I have been seduced by the pretty pictures, though certain things about it the social justice culture, for one make me go rargh

Yeah, Suik V is especially good for that. I mean, I remember before I started playing it, some friends had gotten a headstart and were talking about the excellent possibilities for slash with all the hot guys. And yeah, Suikoden's usually good for that too. But I started up V and was like "yaoi what lolol? I just wanna femslash the heck out of this!" And write a larger amount of het than usual, too. Because really, it was the women who drove the interesting dynamics and relationships in this game, not the guys! (Not that I don't love several of the guys too, but so many AWESOME WOMEN.) That's incredibly rare.

Suikoden III is not as amazing in that department, but it does have some good stuff. Including Queen, who now that I'm thinking about it is very much like the Ferid to Geddoe's Arshtat in a way. No wonder I shipped Ferid and Arshtat. ;) And of course Chris (though I thought they were trying too hard to drive home that she's The Special Lady Knight sometimes)...

There are so many things about Arshtat and Ferid's backstory that are only mentioned by NPCs if you happen to talk to them at the right time... it just makes their romance even more adorable, hearing it via gossiping townspeople. :D I've got this mental image of Arshtat heading out to check the list of competitors just like Lym did (and by the way, I love Lym to bits too, especially late in the game - I have not adored an entire family/household so much since the McDohls in Suikoden 1) and seeing his name there and being like "...Hey, is that...?"

So does this mean that, if I ever go to a con again, we can get the Royal Family + entourage together? Because I would love to be either your doting auntie or your perving fiancee.

Name the convention! ;) I've got nothing in the works in the immediate future except maybe still more Tiger & Bunny, and uh, I probably should do something else, at some point. (I already don't know if I'm going to be wearing anything but versions of Kotetsu at Youmacon.) And I know you guys have real lives with schedules that need to be adhered to, whereas my real life right now mostly involves being available during bankers' hours for a few days per week and letting someone know if a deadline interferes with my plans to go out of town. So the usual cons are no problem at all, and I've been tempted to add a few more to the list now that it's not like pulling teeth trying to get time off.

(Seriously, this job. We almost had a launch date in late July, then I was like "Oh, uh, I've got plans to be in Baltimore that weekend. I can get online and take care of it from the hotel if you need me for anything, though." And they went "Nah, let's launch it the week before.")

Depending on what I am up to this summer, Otakon might be viable, and that's always a good con for Suiko costumes that one doesn't bake to high hell in. Or Anime Boston, which I'm fairly sure we are going to but isn't exactly on your agenda.

Possible parties:

Andrea: Lym
Thea: Miakis or Arshtat, depending on what you want to do for her and what she wants to do
Puel: Prince (or Roy)
Me: Gizel, or Sialeeds, probably Sialeeds, unless someone smaller wants to be her, in which case I decide between Kyle, Georg, and Gizel
Linden: Arshtat or Miakis, depending again on the above

As is the case for Suiko, the more the merrier--we can possibly coax J and K into it as well.

Y'know... Anime Boston might not be completely out of the realm of possibility, all things considered. If ACen hadn't been moved up into April as well, it wouldn't be a bad idea at all; Thea's parents live close enough to Boston (and now have all kids out of their house, so have turned bedrooms into guest rooms) that we wouldn't need a hotel, and we've been meaning to go visit them sometime to repay them for coming out to visit us. And uh, we're working on getting legal stuff done so that we can go get married in some state where it's legal to do so, MA being one of them. With my completely ridiculous work "schedule", I wouldn't have a problem doing it even with ACen so close after, though Thea's work situation is another story entirely. (As is my health, which might throw a wrench in any upcoming plans depending on what the doctors figure out.) So possibly we should discuss the idea of AB for purposes of taking care of multiple things at once AND Suikoden cosplay. ;)

That casting does sound pretty good - though is it just me or would Linden make an awesome Sialeeds also? And I know Thea had an interest in being Georg or Roy (or Ferid, if I ever did Arshtat)... although the idea of she and I being Lym and Miakis is really hilarious. XD I think there had been mention of J potentially being Dolph...? Though it doesn't really go with the family/household theme. Unless we do have a Gizel. And we should really have a Lyon in there somewhere... especially if we're going to have a Prince and a Miakis - Prince needs his bodyguard too. ;)

I know a few more east-coasters now, thanks to the last couple Otakons and Katsucons... at least one of them is a Suikoden fan. May have to do some scouting.

You're entirely right, Linden could do Sialeeds, and I pitched the idea at her and she caught. Also, Puel says that she might be up for Lyon to Thea's Prince (or Roy In Disguise, Thea seems to do that a lot, you know, one character's outfit another character's mind...) if we have to wrangle it thus.

So it would look like:

Andrea: Lym
Thea: Prince (or Roy)
Puel: Lyon
Linden: Sialeeds
Mith: In that case, Georg's the only appropriate one, oh god this is awkward.
