Because I got curious about this on Twitter, and people had interesting answers!
Do you guys ever have songcalls that you listen to over and over for a particular piece (art or fic)? And if so, what's the last song (or last couple of songs) that got completely stuck in your head -- and for what project or characters, if you don't mind revealing?
My current song fixation is on
The Bachelor, which I found on a Peeta/Katniss FST but which has become my new favorite Finnick songcall, particularly for projects where I am being mean to him (read: all of them). This has turned into a general Patrick Wolf listening binge (see icon), but good god, I have listened to that song at least six times today. I am not my girlfriend and thus cannot talk about why the song works on a technical level, but the mood it evokes is just right: haunting and driving and with a lovely tension between home and the outside world. I am not going to copypaste all the lyrics, but simple as the chorus is, it really sticks:
But I'm not gonna marry in the fall
And I'm not gonna marry in the spring
I will never marry - marry at all
No one will wear my silver ring
I find it hard to listen to music when I'm actually writing, because I focus more on the lyrics than on the words in my head, though I get cool music-video-type images when I'm listening that I later try to translate into words. But music is a great tool for getting me psyched up to write, particularly when I'm in the middle of a bout of "my writing suuuuucks."
So what gets you creatively jazzed? Please share stuff -- I admit to being completely greedy when it comes to music, and I'm always on the lookout for more. And hey, maybe other people will ping on some of your song choices, too!
