I've had several posts floating around in my head for weeks (mostly meta: liking things that are problematic, why I have serious problems with the phrase "it's not my job to educate you," Steve and Josh are having sex*!, and the importance of hope and the promise of redemption in my work), but they require mental processing power that I kind of don't have right now. Between grad school and work, I feel kind of wrung out, and I am still slacking off way too much on the grad school front.
*it makes sense in context. trust me.
This, of course, makes it the perfect time to sign up for
origfic_bingo, but it runs for a full year and fuckitall I'm going to finish SOMETHING original this year, preferably something with actual meat on its narrative bones.
(I think I might also take some of the origfic prompts from
this post and combine them with squares to see what I get -- I've been working on them, but well, see earlier note about grad school and work.)
So yeah, a lot of promising stuff in this! :D Some of the prompts are more kink-hammering than others, but I think animal play is the only real do-not-want square on there. And you can request new bingo cards at the beginning of each month regardless of whether or not you've already completed a bingo, so that also offers more possibilities!
Several of the squares give me excuses to work on original projects I have been poking at for some time ("birth" for Gemma and Vin's courtship, "counseling/therapy" for the story about the paranormal psychiatrist and her extremely interesting clinic...) Others don't have stories attached to them yet, but I can see some cool things springing from them ("drunken confession of love," "scars/scarification," "traditions" is broad but great for worldbuilding, "secret identity" hits me in the superhero!nerd buttons).
I have barely begun to consider possible bingos, though the bottom row and the second column to the left look promising, as does the middle column. Origfic_bingo also lets you choose some really weird bingos, so I might see if there are any cool shapes I can make on my card.
I am totally happy to hash out story ideas in the comments or discuss options for this card in general in the comments, if y'all would like. (I certainly would, because I am at the stage where I have lots of IDEAS but nothing hammered down, and talking about things is helpful for that.)
There's no way in hell I'm attempting NaNo this year, but hopefully I'll still be able to play with things in the coming months. And figure out what the hell I'm writing for Yuletide's NYR challenge, which I have to do before signups open so I'm not listed as a defaulter forever, ahahahaha I should probably take care of that soon.
