I think it was brave of her to come out and admit she was partly to blame for whatever problems stirred up in her fandom. I may not like Hetalia, but there's not need to attack a person when they're down. She's genuinely remorseful. And hey, it's her journal. She should be able to say what she feels without a bunch of people coming in and railing on her for having an opinion regardless of popularity.
I agree that she shouldn't apologize to people who shrug off someone's painful family history, but not everyone in Hetalia is as obnoxious. I have friends who enjoy it for whatever reason, but they seem to have a pretty good grasp on how offensive it is, so there's no reason to attack every person who likes it.
For you to come in and mock her while she's clearly in a bad place says you're no better than the people you were scoffing at. If you don't like a fandom or people in it, there's a simple solution to that: Ignore it and continue with your vampire cosplay. It's what I do only with Lord of the Rings fanfiction.
