So I have a very long and very thinky post on huge honking problems with how bottoming tends to get framed as shameful/demeaning/lesser/what-have-you, but working on it is emotionally taxing and I need a break for the night.
Thus, have a meme that's all about embracing desire!
There was this idfic meme going on for a while; I missed the bandwagon, but maybe I can reconstruct in my journal. This was also inspired by me trying to explain my reaction to the Alejandro music video (said reaction was basically "I know it makes no goddamn sense but I DON'T EVEN CARE OH MY GOD SO HOT," which may be a good way of defining idfic and its appeal). Quoth the post:
Basically, id!fic is fic that may or may not be reasonable, logical, in-character, or in any way good story, but that you eat up with a spoon anyway. So like narrative kink, only more so.
Now, some writers embrace their id and write it all out there, and that can be a fabulous thing. Self-awareness FTW. But often when I'm reading a fic I find myself wanting to tap the author and say, "Pardon me, did you know your id is showing?"
So tell me, you guys. Is my id showing, and how?
