When Wallace stares at the ceiling for hours on end, his lips barely fluttering as he breathes, and turns away mutely whenever Josiah tries to offer him food, or water, or even a case study, Josiah can't remember what drew him so strongly to CIT psychsets in the first place. He closes his eyes, breathes deep, and pores through his own -- he doesn't find the answer to that, but he knows what syntax isn't parsing, what subprograms have stalled out. He's going to need deep-tape to repair this, he can tell that much. He should start that process now, report to another qualified handler; when Wallace is better, he'll be better, too. He should leave now.

Just a few more minutes, he catches himself thinking.
