"And you've still no intention of outfitting that behemoth of yours with a proper crew, have you?" England asks.
"I've got a proper crew," Carolina retorts, her jowls quivering. America pets the flaps of skin and scale around her muzzle, and the rumble she gives at that makes his whole arm tingle. "See? I've got America, and he's the best there is."
"You too, sweetheart," America says, patting her snout. She nuzzles him and almost knocks him off his feet, but he rolls with it and only staggers sideways a little before he rights himself, grinning at England -- and America thinks his Gloriana would be smiling, too, her eyes look less pinched and yellowed than usual and she's not carrying her tail so stiffly. "We're a team," he tells England. "Just her and me and the sky. That's the only way you can do it."

(England does have a crew, I think -- not a huge one, but he's got one. I remember Novik mentioned that American dragons usually only had one rider, and the idea just seemed to fit so WELL for America.)

But I could just imagine all those telegrams and communications, with the dragons making little comments. Will the dragons snipe and trade puns too? Will England order his dragon to eat that impertinent ensign?
(Ah! England's crew most likely be small, as you say. People he trusts a lot. It does fit the lone cowboy thing going on for America. XD)
