Its Friday and I think I am finally fully healed from the Pitchfork Festival. Not that it was a bad experience - quite the contrary, it was a great trip - but it really took the wind out of my sails.
We left at 7:00 on friday in Andy's neon, with Andy (aka Mama Bird), me (aka Truck Horn), Betsy (aka Helen Keller aka Burning Seat) and Sarah (aka Sarah) in tow. The drive down was a good time, I successfully got 13/27 trucks to honk their horns for us. We got taco bell, Andy spun good music so I had my head out the window for a while, and most importantly we got to Chicago both safely and in record time. When we got to Everett's we were greeted by a huge party, so it was a good start to the weekend. Later that night, after the chicagoian guests cleared out we wrestled for a while, and then elliott went to bed on the couch close to the TV so we wrestled the half-sleeping elliott off of the couch. After a brutal match and realizing what a BEAST a sleepy elliott is, we compromised, and Elliott slept on the couch and andy and I slept on the floor.
The next morning, after scoring some pancakes, we made our way to the festival. The way over to the festival was our first adventure on chicago's mass transit system, and I must say, I'm fucking jealous. On our approach from the train terminal to Union Park, it hit me: I hate festivals! Everything costs $20, you're in the sun all day (most likely drunk or stoned), the only places to poop have been used as a place to poop 30,000 times that day, and every band I want to see is the same band everyone else wants to see, so you get awful seats, and by seats I mean a place to stand surrounded by people who reek of various drugs and BO, lots of BO. However, after seeing Ted Leo, I began to change my mind and had a really good time for the rest of the festival.
The after the first day of the show, we decided to veg out in the truist form of the word. We bought frozen pizzas from Walgreens, made them, eat them, and fell asleep watching Batman Begins.
After waking up pretty late, we all headed over to a SWEEEEET RESTURANT called "soul veg" which, as joe lewis says "it's a literal diamond in the rough," its in a rough part of town, but it's this beautiful vegan soulfood restaurant run and filled with older african american jews, so it really has a unique, well, everything. After leaving soul veg, andy and I went to taco bell. We went an got a grande meal (10 pieces of beany goodness), I went in to the show, met up with him, he passed it over over the fence to me, and then he came into the festival too, and then we ate bean burritos all day. Mmm, them shits was good. After the shows that night, we drove Matt B. and Johnny to a brewpub of sorts, and drove the hell out of Chicago.
I saw some great bands including Destroyer, Os Mutantes, Ted Leo, the silver jews, the futurheads, the walkmen, spoon, yo la tango, aesop rock, the liars and so many more. It seemed like basicly all of ann arbor (me, andy, betsy, sarah, john, sarabeth, ed, brian, natalie, emily, elliott, everett, rachel, joe, matt, mike, erin, emma, morgan, kostya, brendt, ben, nat, jenn, jim, amy, trey, chris and so many more that I can't even think of all yo names) so it was kind of fun (it sorta felt like living in east quad, everywhere you go someone's just lying around chillin out) but also sucked, I mean, when a mans friends are around, he can't fart and drool on himself and adjust himself properly, so I could'nt just be a total slob.
Well, cheers to Pitchfork Festival 2007.
