The continued adventures of Murphy

When i came home from work on Monday i found some soggy biscuits in Murphy's bowl.  I thought it was a little strange, but I just put them in the bin, cleaned the bowl and gave him some fresh.  When he came in, he tried to eat some biscuits, seemed to have difficulty swallowing them and promptly spat them back up covered in lots of pink, frothy spit.  Ye gads, he then spent the rest of the evening hocking up bits of pink fluffy spit and drinking lots of water.  I took him to visit the vet on Tuesday, the vet had a good look down his throat, he couldn't see anything but he said the back of his throat was very red looking.  So he gave Murphy and antibiotic injection and told to come back the next day for sedation and a proper examination.

Well keeping the intrepid explorer from leaving the homestead for a whole night was tough.  He wasn't allowed to eat after 8pm and I had to drop him off at the vets at 8.30am.  So I couldn't let him out for two reasons, I couldn't be sure if he got out that he wouldn't catch himself a midnight snack and that he would actually be here in the morning for the trip to the vets.  It was like living in fort knox, both cat flaps were locked, there was a board and two chairs in front of the internal cat flap.  He was very determined to get through my barricades, but thank fully I was successful in keeping him in.

The vet phoned me at work to say he had successfully retrieved a 6 inch piece of hard coarse grass from the back of Murphy's throat.  Murphy was very pleased to see me when I picked him up from the vets and has been stuck to me like glue since then.  The pink frothy spit has stopped, thank goodness, his ears are still a little hot.  He has a course of antibiotics to take so that should sort out any infection he is fighting off.  Who knew a piece of grass could cause such problems, I see cats eating grass all the time.
