Village life

Jun 18, 2007 23:30

I was doing the housework this morning in my pjs as normal. I went out to empty the vacum cleaner into the dustbin and my neighbour was chatting with the man that owns the pub (ponytail man). Ponytail man said hello and I said hello, but didn't hang about for small talk as I was in my pj's and the lady he was talking to hates my cat and tells me she want to shoot it, so I don't really want to speak to her too much. A few moments later the door bell went and it was ponytail man asking for planters, I was very confused, did not really know why he wanted my planters, but as I had already decided that I was not going to bother getting bedding plants this year I thought he might as well have them. So I dutifully lined up my window boxes and hanging baskets on the wall for him to take away and decorate the village pub with. A little later on I looked out the window and all my window boxes and hanging baskets were lined up on the wall, only filled with plants. I was gobsmacked to say the least. I went into the pub with a box of chocolates to say thank you and apparantley every year they buy plants for the planters in the village and any plants they have left over they offer them to the villagers for their planters. I was so shamed by this act of kindness that I went to the co-op and bought some Geraniums, Salvia, Ageratum and Sweet Williams to plant in the tubs on the patio and at the front door.

Also
irimitenkan  and family were planting seeds in their new raised vegetable bed so that gave me the impetus to plant some seeds in the pots my bedding plants came in.  So I planted some butternut squash, basil, garlic chives and cherry tomatoes.
