Originally uploaded by Jen and Bill and Elliott!. I adore this picture. Although Bill was being funny, it really captures the truth of our family. I am blessed with a husband who believes 100 percent in equal parenting and sharing the load. Even if it means less sleep or looking a little silly.
To that end, I feel comfortable with the choice I have made this week: I am stepping off the career track to raise my baby for a while. It was a difficult choice, but I know it will be right for us.
Unfortunately I can't be a stay-at-home mom. Instead, we will parent in shifts, with me watching Elliott during the day and Bill taking over nights and weekends when I will work.
I will be trying to build up a freelance business so that I won't have to work outside the home forever. If you know of any writing/editing/proofreading/pr gigs, let me know.
In any case, it's a new day for the Ferris family. I have always gauged my success as a person by my success in the workplace. Now I'll have a different -- and hopefully more accurate -- perspective: The health and happiness of my son.
