Montacute in the rain

Mar 23, 2017 19:22

A day off work. I had hoped to mount an expedition to photograph the blackthorn blossoming along the lanes. But it rained all day and I had to find a Plan B... Max had been following me closely all morning in hopes of insinuating his way onto the expedition, but he had to stay at home, and I drove over to Montacute House.

Rain and windscreen wipers and spray from lorries all the way to Yeovil. Along the roadside, all the celandine flowers closed up tight. My arrival at Montacute coincided with two coach-parties and a school party, so the house was heaving. But the gardens were empty, and the yew walk rather beautiful with the rain falling, and small songbirds flashing up from the path and vanishing into the topiary.

Hiding in the Orangery...
