Thanks for the timely reminder of the Tolpuddle martyrs, not so much has changed after all.
Best wishes for the year ahead!

Happy New Year!

Yes, looking at some of the legislation being proposed these days, it feels more and more like those in power want to change the clock back to the 1830s.

As always, I enjoyed trailing along on your walk and learning bits and bobs about your fascinating island nation's long and complex history.

May your New Year continue the fascinations, while keeping them both interesting and gentle.

Thank you!

Tolpuddle is such a tiny, muddy, rural place. Yet it's right at the heart of UK social history.

Although I know the road through Tolpuddle well, I've never seen all those muddy byways. Some woods may be lovely, dark and deep but those look more like something by Arthur Rackham.

Eek, part of my house is made of cob. So that's what would happen to it if it weren't looked after!
Hope they save the pub.

All the woods look a little like an Arthur Rackham illustration at this time of year. A very different mood from the last time I walked this way in autumn.

Yes, I hope they save the pub. So many village pubs are being lost.

the Village of Tolpuddle... 😀

Great name.

I think the village name was originally Tolpiddle - for the River Piddle that runs through it - but it's one of the villages that decided to change the spelling from Piddle to Puddle.

Puddle seems more apt at this time of year.

Thank you!

It was a good walk, despite puddles and mud. Winter woods and meadows have their own charm.
