Yesterday I had a sudden hankering to hear the calls of wading birds along the harbour's edge, so took Max down to the nature reserve at Arne, and made the short walk out to the nearest of the hides. There were indeed curlews calling and flocks of avocets wheeling above the inlets. But all of them too far away to photograph.
Note to self: never take Max when you're planning a visit to a bird hide. It's amazing how much noise one small restless spaniel on a short lead can make inside a wooden hide. Like an elephant performing a complex dance routine. And when I grabbed his harness to stop him moving around, he started humping my leg instead. The restlessness of Max cannot be Contained...
Even an hour before sunset, the light was going, and all my photos came out a bit fuzzy.
Heard through the trees, the groaning call of Sika stag.
English Longhorn cattle grazing the reserve. Small Egrets, pure white in the dusk, walking among the cattle.
