Our setup right now is a rubbermaid bin beside the bed. Oscar starts out the night in there, comes into bed to nurse back to sleep upon waking in the night, and usually gets put back in the bin when/if I wake up and notice he's unlatched. There's about a foot drop from the bed to his bin. Last night, I woke to a thump noise and a wail and I instantly thought he must have finally crawled far enough to have fallen either from my bed to the bin, or from his bin to the floor (14 inches). I jumped up in horror but found that he was in his bed, perfectly fine. His arm must have just flailed and hit the wall hard. But anyway, my sleep the rest of the night was ruined. Every time he moved at all I had to check on him. It is time for something different. Not sure what, yet. Tonight I'm going to put him to bed in the pack'n'play.
