Jen and I  just watched The Edge of Love (Keira/Sienna/Cillian Murphy/Matthew Rhys) which is really not what you expect and rather refreshing for it, everyone is very strong with Sienna Miller particularly natural and turning in a beautiful performance.

Ever since I started reading my great-granddad's War diaries, I've changed even more in my ( Read more... )

you're lucky to have those diaries.

I'm not fond of war movies for several reasons, among them that they never really portray truth, it's more a "truth as we want you to see it"

I agree people have forgotten - as one of the vetrans said at the last Memorial Day service - too many young today, and their parents, grew up not being at war and while it would never be something that any veteran would wish on anyone, they do sometimes wish that they could make people remember and to understand more about how much was sacrificed for what they have now

i.e. Those are the diaries I have but if we're being history related then yes, I know WW2 is 1939 and on.

It's not a war movie as such, it's just based at that time but it has an amazing mix between spot on truth in 'normal' moments.

It's very disturbing in that sense, uncomfortably and that means they've done well.

It'll come to 100 years soon and then I expect an influx of rememberance. I think it's important to re-reach and teach people in a different way, I hope it happens because once you actually read into it all properly...people take so much for granted.

And yes, the diaries are amazing.
