Finally...

Jun 20, 2008 12:54

... after a week filled with work into the nights, lack of sleep, a close and painful encounter of my head with an iron bar, millions of calls from parents, tons of totally superfluous paperwork and in the end tears from my students realising that they might lose some friends and get an even worse form teacher after the holidays ;), finally finally ( Read more... )

holidays, music

*LOL* Alice Cooper at the muppet show is hillarious!
I also love that one:

Yeah, you already introduced me to this one. It is cute :) Somehow I think I remember that Muppet episode from my childhood - vaguely. Could it be or am I hallucinating?

Why not? I never watched anything but "Maus" and "Biene Maya". (Sh, don't tell anybody. I had a crush on Flipp the grasshopper. I'm not kidding you. *LOL*)

You as well? I LOVED Flip. He was handsome, mature and had a friendly voice. :) I guess many children adored him. How cool is that?

:-) "How seldom it is one meets a fellow spirit..." Cool! We really seem to share the same taste in men. Flip the grasshopper, too. *LOL*

I remember thinking as a child that Flip would not aprove of what I had in mind... and then re-thinking my plans. *LOL*

When I was about 13 I LOVED "Frankensteins Tante"

And I totally fell in love with count Dracula, played by one of the most brilliant and un-known German (well, half-English, actually) actors, Ferdy Mayne (Ferdinand Philip Mayer-Horckel) - and I mean it, I really fell in love, just with the difference that I could neither find fangirls nor was there an internet...- and he died in 1998 (at the age of 82) without me ever meeting him, his only (?) fervent fan doing pencil drawing of his face over and over again... *LOL*.
I couldn't find a clip of him as Dracula in "Frankensteins Tante", but there's another as an equally eloquent, wise and elegant "Conte Krolock" in "Fearless Vampire Slayers" (*LOL* - did HE ever complain of being typecast?)

Wasn't he just awesome? RIP :-(

Frankensteins Tante? I read the book, borrowed from the library, and then I had to buy it for myself too. So, there was also a film? Damn. I missed it. But who wouldn't fall for a vampire as a teenager? What about Spike and Angel then? ;)

It was a sequel (not a sibgle film) in the 80ies and it's available on DVD, as far as I know. And I only watched it for Ferdy. (*LOL*, I'd never realized the parallels to alan rickman until now, that I've looked for a clip for you. *LOL*)

No, *LOL*, no Angel/Buffy etc. fan... I had a housemate in hounslow who was a HUGE fan - and her being the fan she was absolutely kept me from becomming one too. (*LOL*, yes, there IS a degree of fandom that's terrifying for me. *LOL*)

"Is the lawn mower OK again? Blablubb.. we must buy some milk... - Oh, and I must get rid of the demon in the kitchen."

I LOVED "Interview with a Vampire", though - oh, and of course "The fearless Vampire Slayers". One of Sharon Tate's last films, too :-(.

I see... by the way: I am pretty sure Count Krolock was played by Christopher Lee, not Ferdy :) One of the all time classics and Lee was the best! But I don't see any similarities to Rickman there. Lee got a deep voice, all right, but he overdoes the usage of it ever so often. He speaks German so awfully well though, one has to adore it.
And erm, I guess I never told you that I own the complete video/DVD collection of Buffy and Angel? I LOVE Joss Whedon. That guy really knows how to create a character. But don't worry, I won't fight any demon in my kitchen - I made it my friend ;)
Right, now I must try to find out more about Frankenstein's Tante. It must have been a hilarious series.

Christopher Lee? They don't even look alike! And neither do they sound alike ( ... )

*LOL* Typo-correction...

I didn't LIVE the novel, I loved it.

I didn't throw out my DVD player, but my VHS player...

And I HAD discovered the TV series first...

*sigh*

No I should go back to correcting student's essays, not my own ones. *LOL*

PS:

He occasionally was accent-typecast, though... because he was ABLE to do a convinceable German accent:

Ohhh, he looks much better as a human ;) I can see the similarities to Rickman there.

How cool is that? My whole family has been confusing Lee with Ferdy in that movie ;) But maybe it really was because Lee speaks German too. Don't tell me it wasn't him who dubbed the Count in Last Unicorn... ;)
Anyway, since Ferdy is the guy from Polanski's hilarious vampire movie, then yes: he was great!! :) I preferred the old professor and Polanski himself though. I really feared Krolock as a child. And the scene when he comes through the window in the roof while the girl is bathing *shriek* I was so afraid! But I loved it at the same time. Still got a copy from TV on an old VHS. Low quality of course...
Yeah, give Angel or Buffy a try - or any series by Joss Whedon. :)
