Present and future goals

*Sigh* one exam to go...I'm not worried about it though. The hard ones have been and gone. Our flat for next year is ours pretty much as of tomorrow, which rocks. It's tiny but I don't think I'll be in for much of the time, since all my classes next year are in London. Oh well! Saves me getting pissed off with our flatmates. I've lived with them for two years already, and although they're ok there are some things that really piss me off about them. Like how the girl bitches that no one does any housework apart from her...

That's ok...but James and I don't leave messes. We make a mess, it gets cleared up straight away. These two will cook huge meals using loads of kitchen equipment and leave the mess all over the surfaces/cooker and then be *too tired* to clean up and leave it for DAYS. I also don't use any of the communal spaces apart from the bathroom and kitchen, which I clean up after myself as I go. SO WHY WHINE THAT I DON'T DO *MY SHARE*???? It's bullshit. We never had a rota, we agreed to clean up after ourselves, get over it!

I swear she's got some kind of martyr complex going on because she thinks she works harder than everyone else. Well stuff that. We all work hard, we all have money problems, stop getting your knickers in a bunch. If she's having to work hard it's because of her boyfriend who if responsible for most of the mess, and who has repeatedly needed to borrow money from her in the past because he can't get a loan and has no support from his parents, is academically lazy etc etc. He's a nice guy, but he makes that girl's nerviness worse because he contributes to her omnipresent stress. Urgh. They're ok, believe me, but shit like this gets on my nerves a lot.

Anyhoo...I wrote up a list of stuff I want to do over the next few months and then started thinking about what would be cool in the more distant future. Most of the stuff for now is non-academic because, obviously, I've nearly finished my degree and my masters starts in October. On the serious side of things I need to get a Summer job sorted out, but on a more fun side of things here are my goals:

Keep up my sketch diary and improve my skills
Keep in shape, maybe find a pool and swim instead of the stuffy old gym...
Read lots of good books, make a start on my reading lists for next year
Game! I have several goals on FFXI (my MMORPCrack of choice) which involve levelling a few jobs and skills, completing some missions/quests etc. I may also complete Oblivion, Odin Sphere and FFXII this Summer.
Sacrifice to several Elder Gods to ensure I get a grant next year ;.; I got through the first couple of stages! Now my application has to get through the panel...*fingers crossed*

That's about it for goals for this Summer. Thinking further into the future...I may be applying to some American universities for my PhD! I've done some research already, and although it's expensive in some ways I may end up saving money by studying in the States. For one thing my dad is employed by an American company and is essentially paid in dollars. My folks also have a house in America as a source of income from rent. The biggest thing is that American universities grant a lot more funding than UK ones, and have far fewer people per university studying at Phd level. It all breaks down to money unfortunately. I'm just not likely to be able to afford a PhD in the UK. The Yanks do things differently...like they make you do a lot more for the course requirements, including passing a Modern Language translation test and other such things. Often the time taken to complete the qualification requirements is longer because you have to jump through so many hoops and pass so many courses. But all in all it doesn't look hard. Harvard has been pointed out as the one that's most likely to take people like me, but I hear it's quite stuffy, and there are better courses. Bit like Oxbridge really :P The one that's catching my eye is the University of California at Berkeley. It's a really strong contender against the Ivy League group, but the living cost of the area is fairly high, obviously :(.

Time will tell!

P.S. WATCH LUCKY STAR! BEST ANIME EVAR!
