Summary: News spread fast at McKinley. Kurt Hummel had tried to kill himself.
(AN. the next part will be longer! I promise!)
No one knew how the news had gotten out, but by the end of the day everybody knew. His father had found him in the bathroom, his wrists cut from palm to elbow, a bloody razor on the floor. It was unclear how long he'd been like that; long enough to pass out but not long enough to bleed to death.
It was third period English when Noah Puckerman found out. He overheard two cheerleaders talking about it.
"Hummel?" he asked, completely forgetting the notes he was taking off the bord.
The two cheerleaders nodded in confirmation. "Who would have thought? He always seemed so calm and collected. Nothing ever fazed him."
The rest of the class went by in a blur and suddenly he was taking down the homework assignment and rushing out the door.
He made his way to Mercedes locker; she wasn't there, so he ran to choir room. He got there at the same time as Quinn. She flew past him and went straight for the crying figure at the piano. The two of them sat there together in silence. Puck sat in a chair next to Finn and gripped his shoulder in a way that he hoped was comforting.
After a while Quinn pulled Tina over to her as well and spoke softly, "How did we not notice something was wrong?"
Everyone stayed silent. Puck was starting to wonder if they had heard her at all.
"Last night," Mercedes said, almost whispering, "I thought something was wrong. I was going to ask him today... He was acting so strange. We were watching Criminal Minds and he told me that he loved me. It just burst out while Reid and Morgan were stuck in an elevator." She smiled softly. "He has told me a thousand times but never like that. It was like he needed me to know it was true."
"He did that to me too." said Finn. Rachel grabbed his hand while he spoke, "Just randomly. While I was playing video games he said he loved me and I was the best brother he could have hoped for."
"Isn't that one of the signs?" asked Artie, "Spontaneous declarations of love: it's one of the signs of being suicidal."
"He'll be fine right?" Brittany asked brightly, "He's in the hospital. They make people better, right?"
Nobody was sure how to answer.
Finally, Mike spoke from his place next to Matt, who was holding on to him as if it would save his life, "We don't know, Britt. Hopefully. We have to wait and see." Puck saw the blonde girl's face fall and decided that it was his duty in Kurt's absence to make Brittany feel better.
"He'll be fine Brit. How about I take you to see him tomorrow?" He knew it was probably a really bad idea and the doctors might not even let them in, but he had to make Britt feel better. If she felt bad then they all felt bad and god knows that they didn't need to feel any worse than they did now.
