30 Little Moments - #10 Surprisessunshine_flyingJune 10 2012, 16:36:04 UTC
It's a grueling two years between saying goodbye to Kurt as he moves off to OSADA in Columbus and when he invites Puck to his graduation. Two years of pool cleaning on the side while he works in Burt's garage, two years of saving up money and hoping that he's got the balls to give Kurt a good life, since he knows Kurt's going to struggle to find work throughout his entire career. Jobs are scarce for someone as unique as Kurt.
Puck keeps those worries to himself, and he loads up a moving van with all of his stuff and anything Kurt had left in Lima, and Finn drives his car for him as Puck drives the truck and Burt and Carole in their care lead the caravan to Columbus. Kurt doesn't know it, but he'll be moving to New York right after graduation - a surprise Puck cooked up for him.
While Kurt is bustling around campus with the choir, preparing a number to sing during the ceremony, Burt and Carole are going to pack his apartment and Finn and Puck are going to save them seats. Kurt positively glows during graduation, and after, he meets Burt, Carole, Finn, and Puck out in the grassy knoll outside the building where the ceremony was held, hugging each in turn. "I'm so proud of you, babe," Puck says, though he's proud of both of them for making the distance work.
Kurt smiled up at Puck, teary-eyed and elated, and Burt suggests, "How about we head out, grab something to eat?"
Once Kurt sees the caravan of vehicles, he'll understand what's happening, and Puck is looking forward to it. While surprising for Kurt, he really can't see it being a problem for Kurt. As they walk outside, Kurt rolls his eyes at the tacky moving van parked in a nondescript lot, but as they approach, he begins to get a bit nervous. "Wh-what's going on?" he asked.
"We're moving," Puck said proudly, turning to look at him with a grin. "Tonight. Got us a place out in New York. I've got a job out there and it's kind of close to the stuff you like, but it's not super expensive."
"But, my apartment...?" Kurt trailed off.
"Packed it for you," Burt chimed in. "We're helping you guys drive out there, me, Carole, and Finn. We're gonna get you guys moved in and settled before we come back to Ohio."
Kurt just stared at them all for a moment before tears welled in his eyes and he hugged Puck close, face buried in his shoulder. Puck couldn't find the words to say, because Kurt's reaction said enough: he knew his boyfriend well, and he could make him happy. No matter what.
