Puck knew that Kurt was a romantic. They were honing in on two years as a couple and Kurt deserved a man that would take things to the next level. A sweeping proposal, a fancy ring, and all the flowers and cheesy shit he could handle.

Except, it wasn't going to work out that way. His pool cleaning business had taken a slump ever since that new kid came into town, touting years of knowledge from wherever it was in the south that he'd moved from. He was outcleaning Puck three to one, so the budget around the Hummel and Puckerman apartment was slim.

Puck wanted to give Kurt what he deserved, but he knew it wasn't in the cards. Never mind the money - it wasn't even legal in Ohio yet. Kurt was very adamant during their talk a few weeks ago that he didn't want to have to run away to a different state to get married. He wanted it to happen in Ohio. Mostly for his family, but also on the principle of the whole thing.

So, a week before Kurt and Puck's two year anniversary, the two of them lay curled up on the sofa watching a movie on their ancient TV. The pixels in the corner were starting to fade, and the color had become a bit redder than it should have been. Kurt was saving up to replace it, but the bills came first. "Hey Kurt?" Puck spoke up softly.

Kurt was warm against Puck's body, curled up against his side, tucked away under his arm almost impossibly close. "Hmm?" he hummed, turning his head to show he was listening.

"I want to marry you one day," Puck told Kurt simply. He looked down at Kurt, hoping he knew how serious he was. "The thing is... I know you want to do it here, so I know we need to wait. But as soon as I can, I want to be able to get you a ring. I don't care if it's not legal, I want people to know you're mine. I love you."

Kurt sat up at this. It certainly wasn't how he had any of this in mind - a proposal, if that's even what it was - but it was sweet. Fitting, definitely. He flashed Puck a teary-eyed smile and reached out to hold his hands. "Of course," he said happily, looking into Puck's eyes. "I want that, too."

"Even though I haven't found a good job yet?" Puck asked nervously.

"Of course!" Kurt exclaimed. "You think I'm proud that I'm still working at Breadstix? It doesn't matter where you work. Right now it's the two of us in this apartment and... we can make it work. We know we can. And I can't see myself with anyone except for you."

Kurt was beaming, and Puck looked hopeful and overjoyed and all the millions of emotions that were flowing through him in that moment. Kurt reached out to wrap his arms around Puck's neck, and he slid onto his lap as they kissed, the movie now forgotten in the background in favor of something much more entertaining.
