Welcome to Day Four of
30 Days of Puckurt Drabbles in June: 2012 Edition!
Here be
the rules; don't forget to include a rating if the piece is rated higher than PG.
(I know I'm a little behind on adding people to the participants list; I should be able to get to that later today.)
Summer had started early and HOT this year, and the AC in his room had stopped cooling a week ago. It had taken 3 days for his Dad's friend to finally visit his house to 'fix' it, only to be told that it really wouldn't be worth it. Somehow the copper had rotted and the gas was leaking and it would probably keep on happening.
The last two days had seen him spending his free time looking up BTU calculators and measuring the size of the hole in the wall and looking up prices online. He'd finally bought an unit yesterday and splurged on having it delivered and installed today.
The doorbell startled him from his stupor and he rolled out of the bed, grabbing a sleeveless undershirt on his way to the door. He was still pulling it down his stomach when he opened the door. The incredibly tall man in front of him smiled widely and put out his hand for a shake, looking down to read on his clipboard.
"Mr. Hummel? I'm Finn Hudson, that's Noah Puckerman. We're here to install your new air conditioning unit," he said, his right hand going from their handshake to a thumb over his shoulder to point out his partner, who was taking his unit out of their truck.
One hour later, Kurt heard the sweet sound of the A/C turning on and hurried from the kitchen, two glasses with iced Coke in his hands, and into his bedroom, where the two guys were clearing out the boxes and pieces of cardboard and plastic that they've set down to protect his carpet. He'd been in and out of the room, asking if they needed help, letting Puck in and out of the house when he went to their truck to get some extra tools, and basically making a nuisance out of himself, as every home owner tended to do when there is work being done inside their homes.
He handed the two glasses over (and if his fingers 'accidentally' lingered over Noah's, well, no one said anything) then went over to stand in front of the cold air, immediately shivering at the great change in temperature.
Noah went over to him with a plastic bag with papers and the manual inside.
"Here you go, the manual is inside, as is your warranty papers and sales receipt. You need to make a copy of it as that paper fades. We have a recycling program, that's cost free, so if you want to get rid of your old unit we can take it with us. Inside there's also a few extra parts that weren't necessary as this was a wall install, not a window install." He took Finn's clipboard from his hands and came to stand close at his side. "This is the installation receipt, there's the date and time we arrived and the time now, and we need you to sign here and here."
Kurt took the pen from Noah, but left him to hold the clipboard as he leaned closer to sign where indicated. They jumped apart when Finn cleared his throat and called Noah away as they needed to head to another install.
Kurt walked them to the door and closed it behind them. Before he got a few steps away, there was a quick knock on the door. He walked back and opened it to see Noah standing there.
"Oh, hey, did you forget something?"
"Yes, this," he said as he leaned down and kissed him softly. When he broke off, he shoved a scrap of paper in Kurt's hand and walked away, turning halfway to smirk.
When he got into the truck, the window rolled down and he stuck his head out to shout, "Call me!"
end
(because I bought an A/C today because mine broke. Dad helped me set it up, but I've had had enjoyed the process much more if Puck and Finn had installed it for me...)
