In an effort to start making things right, he apologised to Kurt. Puck expected Kurt to lord it over him, make him grovel a bit before eventually forgiving him. Instead, Kurt simply asked him “Why?”
Puck rubbed the back of his head. “I knew I was being horrible to you. It’s just, you have wings. You’re confident, you can work whatever you wear better that anyone else, and you can fly. I’m never going to have that. So, I’m sorry.”
Kurt smiled. It was soft, but it filled up his face, and Puck thought that he had never seen anything more beautiful. When Kurt spoke, it was as gentle as his smile. “Don’t give up yet. You never know what the future may hold.”
Two months later, Puck kissed Kurt for the first time. It was in Kurt’s back yard, and Puck had come over just to watch him fly. It was breathtaking. Kurt was gracefully on the ground, but he was one with the air. Puck was breath taken, and he couldn’t stop himself from wrapping Kurt in his arms and pressing their lips together.
When they had been together for almost a year, Puck had made piece with Kurt’s wings. They were a part of Kurt, something else to love about him. Even still, Puck had to ask about their first real conversation, the time that Puck apologized.
“What did you mean when you said ‘you never know what the future holds?”
“Well Noah, only the chosen get wings.”
“Yeah, I know that, what about it?”
Kurt smiled that soft smile of his, the one that had melted Puck’s heart. “It means, Noah, that I choose you.”
