Author's Notes: I really enjoyed writing this! All most all of the kinks listed were mine as well, I just wish I could have fit more of them in. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did writing it.

Every six months Kurt had an appointment at the New York City Institute for Genetic Research- which loosely translated into ‘We study freaks!’, Kurt was a rare form of mutant that could change not only his outward appearance but also his internal structure; he’d given himself three hearts, put his liver in his left foot and one very drunken night removed his eyes for twenty minutes. This all equated to the Institute paying for Kurt to fly from Los Angeles to New York every half a year to study him. They did not pay for first class.

So Kurt was now sitting in Newark International waiting for the institute car to pick him up, just a week before Hanukkah, with a splitting headache that nothing would cure. Kurt hated that the Institute always insisted he come so close to the holidays; obviously people no longer respected a person’s right to religious practice (or a person’s husband’s religious practice at least). It was for the greater mutant good though. From what they had learned from him they were already beginning to understand how the human genome was rapidly progressing. Even Noah had been affected. Noah, Kurt’s husband, had suffered from seizures since the age of seven because of his ability to enter others dreams. The doctors had been able to put Noah on a medicine that finally worked to stop the seizures because of brain scans they’d taken of Kurt four years earlier.

Kurt just wished he could be at home in California with Noah planning for the holidays and swapping stories about what had happened with Noah’s students and Kurt’s book store. Dreaming about last year’s holiday season and planning for this year’s, Kurt didn’t see the man walk up to him with an unusually nice suit and a warm smile.

“Kurt Hummel?” The man asked, startling Kurt from his thoughts of wreaths and lamp oil. “I’m from the Institute; the usual driver is out sick today and I’m his replacement.”

----____----

“Mr. Hummel,” Dr. Ikonen announced to the dark taupe room. “We’ve found some interesting results from your sonogram.”

“Interesting?” Kurt asked confused, all of his tests were interesting- it was the reason they performed the tests in the first place.

“Yes, it seems that you haven’t been telling us everything. You should know by now that we ask that you notify us of any surgery that you undergo- preferably before it is performed. Why you thought you could hide this from us when you know the kinds of tests we run is beyond me.” Kurt’s doctor scolded him, for what Kurt couldn’t imagine.

“I honestly have no idea what you are talking about,” Kurt said as solemnly as he could, trying to convince the doctor by the tone of his voice just how serious he was.

“Well if that’s true we have a huge development,”

“Would you please tell me what’s going on? What is so interesting that you seem to think I’ve gotten surgery? You know I’m just about the only person in the world that doesn’t need it for anything.” Kurt asked trying to stay as calm as possible.

“Kurt you have a condition that until very recently was known only to women, and even now is only present in men when induced intentionally.” Dr. Ikonen said, trying to be gentle with what was going to be very traumatic news.

“…which would be?” Kurt prompted, his nervousness about what was going on only exasperated by the doctor’s stalling.

“You are pregnant, Kurt.”

“I’m what?”

“Pregnant,” Dr. Ikonen repeated “If you didn’t intentionally go and get the surgery and injections, then we have to assume that this is your internal metamorphosis at play. I assume that sometime around two months ago you and Noah were having intercourse?”

“Yeah, we’re married. We have sex.” Kurt said blankly looking down at his more than flat stomach.

“I think that your body decided to grow a working set of internal-female reproductive organs. When Noah and you performed intercourse an egg must have been fertilized; since we know that your body will not remove anything vital to your survival, it must have extended this survival technique to the fetus.” Dr. Ikonen explained finally sitting in the stool and sliding near to the bed Kurt was on. “I know this is a lot to take in but it’s real Kurt. We’ve run every test available, three times. You are pregnant.”

“We just got married six months ago…this can’t be happening,” Kurt said mind running through every shift, cosmetic and internal, he’d performed two months ago.

“It is Kurt,” She said comfortingly as she could placing a hand on the young mutant’s shoulder. “I know this is a lot to take in. It’s probably scary to think about, scary to think about how everyone is going to react. I’m sure Noah will be pleased.”

“Of course Noah will be pleased; he’s been talking about having kids since I met him. I always thought we would adopt though because Noah was a male-pregnancy.” Kurt said as his hand already rested over his navel, his own mind flashing back to the presentation in seventh grade-sex ed. The only male science teacher in the building awkwardly trying to explain to a bunch of bored adolescent boys about the off-spring of male-pregnancy and their inability to reproduce in the same way their fathers had was a memory Kurt had never thought about until he fell in love with Noah Puckerman, and hadn’t thought about since.

“Yes, we believe that since this is a ‘natural’ birth the same rule does not apply.” Dr. Ikonen replied quietly, hand slowly retreating from Kurt’s shoulder. “I know it seems a little soon to be thinking about pregnancy rules and doctors’ visits but I have a few things you need to know before you leave here today…”

As Dr. Ikonen went through every piece of information that anyone could possibly need to know about pregnancy ever, all Kurt could think about was telling Noah. He’d met Noah through his ability; the college professor had come into Kurt’s bookstore looking for books to recommend to his more advanced theoretical physics students about abilities and more specifically about his ability. Noah’s students loved to talk about mutant issues, which was a little off topic for most classes but since they all seemed to have positive attitudes Noah figured he could let it slide. So Kurt had shown him around the store and handed him books every once in a while that he thought would be of interest for hours that day. Kurt had told Noah about his ability and Noah had shared his.

Every night since that day Kurt had dreamed of Noah. At first it was his minds own projection of the professor, then later it was the actual man himself talking to Kurt while he slept. He would tell Kurt his dreams of the future and show him scenes from his past. This presented a little problem for Kurt. There was nothing more that Noah wanted more (now that he was married to Kurt) than a child, and the news that they would be expecting their own soon would be the best Hanukkah present Kurt could even dream of getting him. The problem was how to keep this news from Puck until then. Kurt saw no problem in keeping it from his husband in his waking hours, years of high school and community theatre had proven him to be an excellent actor. It was when he would surely fall asleep between then and meeting Noah at the airport on the first day of Hanukkah that worried him.

There was no way that Kurt could hope to keep awake until then, the doctor had warned him about his hectic work schedule and his frequent habit of pulling all-nighters. There was no way Kurt was willing to do anything remotely harmful to the baby no matter how good the surprise would be for his husband. Kurt would have to find another way to keep his dreaming state from telling his husband the one thing Kurt didn’t want to tell him…until Hanukkah at least.

----____----

After spending a night in a fairly nice hotel in New York and waking up ungodly early to catch his flight back to LA, Kurt had found that he was successful in keeping the baby out of his dreams, his strategy of thinking very erotic thoughts before bed had worked wonders. As soon as Noah had crept into his dream he’d immediately started to do things to Kurt that Kurt was sure wouldn’t be possible outside of his dream world. Now all Kurt had to do was stay awake on the plane and make sure not spill the surprise on the way home from the airport.

As Kurt sat in his seat on the plane he realized for the first time how excited he was about this enormous news. He’d been so focused on Noah and how Noah would feel about the baby he’d not even taken in the situation for himself. Looking down at his stomach and rubbing it lightly, Kurt imagined how his life would change with a baby; running around with a little boy that looked just like Noah or taking a little girl that was a mixture of them both to visit her grandparents sounded like the best thing in the world. Even taking off time from the job that he loved almost as much as he loved Noah didn’t sound like such a bad thing when he realized what he’d be coming home to. Something he’d never really had since his mother had died… a family.

So Kurt stepped off the plane not only with a strong conviction not to tell Noah about their child that was growing inside him, but also to make life the best for that child. Kurt knew that the likelihood of the child developing a gift was almost certain and that life would be harder for them because of it, but Kurt would make sure to lessen the pain. Their child would always know who they were and where they belonged in the world; with their family, with Kurt and Noah.

----____----

Sitting on floor underneath the Christmas tree as Noah lit the first candle on the menorah and replaced the attendant candle, Kurt decided to tell him.

“Noah?” Kurt asked, gently patting the cushy pillows he sat on, gesturing for Noah to join him.

“Yes, baby?” Noah replied eyes dancing with amusement and love.

I want to tell you something,” Kurt began unsure of how to approach the subject gently without making it sound like he had a fatal disease. “I found something out at the institute this visit…I’m pregnant.”

Silence fell as Noah tried to work through that statement in his head. The confused look clearly turned into one of joy as Noah realized that his husband was pregnant no matter how it had come to pass. Turning to face Kurt fully on the blankets he rest both his hands over his husband’s stomach trying to feel the baby’s consciousness that he could sometimes feel in fetuses that were dreaming.

“This is definitely the best Hanukkah Present EVER!”
