Tonight we're gonna party like it's ... 1799?

Aug 29, 2009 11:55

Scotland's late-summer cool does not seem to have had an effect on the Caribbean beach: the sun warms the sand and sparkles off the water with positively baffling cheer.

It's baffling to Puck, anyway, who is still recovering from his Blodwen hangover, and feels even more tired because of the spellwork that he and Nita (though mostly Nita) ( Read more... )

Being outside, the party doesn't so much have a doorway. It's very much a wander-up-the-beach kind of deal. However, there's a general focus of festivities a little along from where the door to the Bar proper opens out, and it's more or less here that most people will arrive.

A tall ominous black-clad figure wearing a party hat has stationed himself more or less here, to watch who arrives.

Feel free to, you know, ignore him.

Lilly has totally been around. Just, for once, in a background sort of way. She's been universe-hopping via the Time Sceptre she got out of the Lost and Found box, but she makes it back to check on the kids way more often than she would ever admit. She even helped plan the party!

...well, okay, she bought the booze. Whatever, it counts.

And she's here today, surveying the party prep with a pleased smile. It is, in her opinion, appropriately fabulous.

"Hullo darling."

Puck is smiling crookedly.

"Does it meet with your approval?"

Lilly smiles, tilting her head back to soak up a little extra sun.

"Totally. The sign's great, the kids love sparkly stuff."

Yes. It is the children who love glitter. Mmmhmm.

Raspberry, of course, is already enjoying the water, but Adrian and Aria hurry to get in on the act as well, dashing down to the water's edge and shrieking things that sound like "Berry!" and "Razzbey!"

(Their enunciation could still use work.)

Don't worry! With so many adult-type figures around, they won't drown. But you might consider joining them; it's a very nice day.

Its been hot today so Will's going for a swim. Finding the squid with hats and little children is a bit of surprise and he ends up laughing,

"Ye little ones 'ave loads o'energy."

Laughing! Laughing swimming human! Raspberry likes him.

This is probably why she splashes him mischievously and dives below the water.

Some of the liberated tables are spread with plates and bowls of party food - mostly things that can handily be picked up to snack on, with allowance for jelly and ice-cream, which is somehow soft but not melting in the warmth. Be careful which bowls you pick snacks out of, as the offerings range from crisps and sandwiches, to fried paradoxes and right the way up to chocolate-coated grasshoppers.

The drinks are out in chilled punch bowls - mostly blended fruit juices on the tables, with a seperate table in the shade of a few palm trees for the alcohol, the supply of which (due to Lilly's machinations) is both inventive and generous.

In pride of place sits an enormous birthday cake, courtesy of Bar's timely interpretation that all most children can ask for is chocolate. It has tree candles on top - one each for Aria, Adrian and Raspberry, since Puck, Lilly and Havelock still haven't worked out exactly how old the twins are. There are also knives and plates for guests to grab their own.

Duo is eyeing the cake suspiciously. Puck and Lilly are at this party. All edible substances are therefore suspect.

It looks tasty, though.

(And is that punch made from friendship apples?)

As mentioned in the invitation, while gifts are not required they are encouraged.

And look! A conveniently empty table that already has three small boxes on it.

Hmmmmm.

At some point, another three (identical) packages are added to the table.

Inside: three beautifully crafted stuffed banthas. They are chew-proof, fire-proof, water-proof, and quite indestructible. Plourr has learned the value of 'indestructible' as a characteristic of children's toys.

They're also cute.

Bar delivered an invitation to Demeter which made her smirk and so before she helps with Happy Hour a few baskets are dropped onto the table.

The first one which is large and has a cloth over it is addressed To Puck and whoever shares his bed, may it bring you joy., inside are some lovely homemade bread and good wine along with some rather interesting toys for the bedroom.

The other three baskets are full of a variety of gifts for children and squid, sweet things, books, stuffed animals and some simple toys that Demeter has found never go out of style.

Then with a smile as she takes a chocolate, Demeter returns to the Bar.

Raven was not here.

Raven has never been to this party.

Raven has, quite possibly, never even met Adrian, Aria, and Raspberry.

Nevertheless there are three charms left on the table, made out of wood -- willow, rowan, and ash to be precise -- and silken thread.

For safety.

It is a thing.
