Here's a little more involved explanation that boils down to the same thing:

There's some poetic justice in this:

"For the first time in his long political career, his job over the next few years is to keep quiet."

I find the comment, "I just hope you don't break it so bad the rest of us can't fix it" rather ironic because I fear that may have been exactly what the Republicans have done. Unrestrained, unfettered and for all practical purposes nearly unregulated worship at the altar of the free market god has the entire country chained to that altar with its heart ripped out and held to the sky. It remains to be seen whether we can re-implant it AND perform effective CPR.

OTOH, part of me also hopes we do not get the 60 votes. While solidifying my stand on the left as it were, I'm increasingly moderate in my creeping middle agedness, and really prefer some checks and restraints to prevent either party from implementing their full agenda.

The entire "60 vote majority" idea is a bit misleading, though, because it assumes that both parties vote monolithically, which is rarely the case. Depending on the issue, the more moderate Democrats might vote against cloture, or moderate Republicans, of which there are still some, might vote for it. This would be especially true of Lieberman if it weren't for his apparent new found gratitude.

I'm all for getting their asses down here to campaign for Jim Martin. Let's get Saxby Chambliss as damned far away from Washington as possible.
