Belated Skins Reaction Post

I've been in Germany this week which made watching the finale a little difficult.

Damn parents.

Life doesn’t end with a bang. It ends with a whimper.

And so it went for the season finale of Skins and all our favourite characters.

Not to say it was a bad episode … but it wasn’t exactly rousing. But an episode circulating around a funeral hardly could be. ( And don’t get me started on why they felt the need to kill off Chris. )

Best line:

“ And we’ve all seen each other naked. Which is - nice. “

I never really been a huge Sid fan but occasionally he says stuff that just really cracks me up. And that was such a line. So I’ll miss him.

My favourite moment was easily by far Jal’s speech at Chris’s funeral, then the fireworks - a very fitting tribute. “Fuck it!” Chris would approve and thus so do I.

But overall I’d say my favourite scene was the one between Jal and Chris’s Dad at his graveside. I was just hoping and hoping they’d get a scene together; and really pleased Jal didn’t get vengeful on him because she loved Chris more than anyone and so understands and respects other’s grief, even if his Dad was shit and neglectful.

And since Jal wasn’t in the car I like to think she stayed there next to Chris for a while longer. Because I was really worried they were gonna drown all her woe in baby angst

( and though the sentimental creature inside of me wanted her to keep it, if she was already at the abortion clinic when Chris died it was too late ), and I liked that they didn’t try and tidy her grief away as a means of wrapping up loose ends.

And on another note; Michelle. Her lack of understanding in the duvet covers, and when she started to talk about Tony at the zoo … I was getting ready to throw stuff at the screen. ( Laptop screen - watching this in a bar in Berlin; the only place I can get wi-fi on holiday ). But she totally pulled through when showing Jal the place where she met Chris.

For me everything else in the episode didn’t inspire that much of reaction - the only thing about Anwar’s storyline I enjoyed this eppy was his Mum. Hehe. And I’ve never really got on board with Tony/Michelle - Tony and Sid’s goodbye was the best scene with those two in and really quite moving. Frankly I can find Cassie interesting but far more often feel annoyed by her so I wasn‘t that bothered by her lack of presence in the episode.

I feel a bit intolerant saying I found her irritating because she has “issues. “And yes, anorexia is a serious problem, but I’m not sure if I ever bought into her existentialist crisis or love for Sid enough, so I find her annoying and child-like more often than not.

And one minor thing that bugs - if you were standing outside Bristol airport you, a) wouldn’t hear your boarding call from outside, and b) wouldn’t be able to make it on time considering checking in. I especially know because I flew from there 3 days ago.

Oh and the ending? Skins; The Next Generation. New, Stoned, and Skinny.

Seriously- Effy? I know she’s the only one to feature in the next series but … meh. I’ll watch for the writing - not for her.

Though the girl who plays her, Kaya, is lovely. I’ve met her.

Second thoughts, best funny line:

“ Lose that hid Sid. It makes you look retarded. “

Because, simply, so true.
