It is a quarter to three in the morning, and I have just now finished the final Harry Potter book (I only started it around noon)

I have to say, without spoilers naturally, that I enjoyed it as much as I did the first four or five books. After that, they weren't nearly as good, in my opinion. Rowling just lost something (perhaps her editor?) for a few books there. However, whatever it was, she got it back in time for the ending.

This is not to say that I'm totally comfortable with the way everything turned out. There were a few things I frankly didn't much appreciate, other things that I think the story could have done without, but over all the book lived up to all the hype as much as any book that has become such a phenomenon ever could.

As a disclaimer, I feel compelled to mention that this is absolutely in no way even pretending to be a children's book at this point. It is dark, and frightening, and downright gory in places, and should be approached with care by anyone with children not old enough to understand. It isn't quite the stuff of nightmares, but it is most certainly rated R.
